White eye disease is a common eye disease in turtles. It mostly occurs in the early spring, and young turtles are the most vulnerable to infection. The main symptom of white eye disease is that the tortoise’s eyes are swollen, and the outside of the eyeball is covered by white secretions. Most of the causes of the disease are due to the pollution of water quality or the excessive alkalinity of water quality, as well as the fact that the feeding turtles are too dense and scratch each other. When some turtles first get sick, only one eye is infected. If they are not treated in time, the other eye will also be infected.
After finding that the tortoise is ill, first take the tortoise out of the water and put it in a cool and dry place for dry breeding. It can no longer be put in the water. For newly ill turtles whose eyes can still be opened a little, they can be soaked in furacilin or furanone solution. The concentration of the solution is different according to the age of the turtle, and the amount of the solution is also different. If it is a young turtle who has been born for a short time, it only needs to be diluted with 20 mg stock solution mixed with 1 liter of water. Young turtles and adult turtles should be diluted with 30 mg stock solution mixed with 1 liter of water. Put the turtle in a container and soak it for 40 minutes, which requires continuous soaking for 5 days. Pay attention to the water for raising turtles. It’s best not to use tap water directly. It can be boiled in cold water.
In addition, for Turtles who are seriously ill and cannot open their eyes, first carefully clean the white secretions and necrotic epidermis in their eyes, and carefully remove them to avoid bleeding. If you accidentally hurt and bleed, you should continue to clean up. Then soak the sick turtle in the solution diluted with vitamin B, oxytetracycline solution and water. Pay attention to the amount of flushing. Put half a tablet of oxytetracycline and two tablets of vitamin B in every 500g of water.
For the white eye disease of turtles, various prevention measures should be taken at ordinary times. In the hot season, after feeding turtles, the remaining food must be cleaned up and the water replaced to avoid the deterioration of residual food, pollution of water sources and breeding of bacteria. At the same time, the utensils for raising turtles must be cleaned and disinfected frequently to protect them. In addition, in the season of high incidence of diseases, when feeding turtles, you can feed some nutritious food to enhance the resistance of turtles and avoid diseases. You can’t raise turtles in alkaline water.
