The Great Pyrenees has a muscular and coordinated body with a beautiful and elegant appearance, a stately and majestic build, and imperial manners. It is always confident, yet gentle and friendly, (but does not exclude individual personalities that are irritable). He has a strong sense of responsibility, calm and patient, brave and loyal. It is one of the most powerful breeds nowadays, and can stay faithfully at its post to stand firm no matter what the climate is. So, what to feed the Great Pyrenees?
Can a Great Pyrenees eat food like chicken bones? The answer is no. Chicken, duck and goose bones are small, but hard. They cannot be easily chewed by the Great Pyrenees’ teeth like pig or cow bones. These bones, the Great Pyrenees simply can not break, if swallowed whole small bones, it is likely to pierce the mucous membrane of the throat or stomach, and lead to the loss of life of the Great Pyrenees. So, if you want to feed this kind of food, you must remove the bones first.
So, is there anything else to keep in mind when it comes to food for the Great Pyrenees?
①Dry food made of salt, for example, salted fish, small fish and shrimp, bacon, ham, cured meat and some other foods with high salt content, should not be given to the Great Pyrenees.
② Mustard and chili peppers are highly irritating foods. These tend to cause ulcers in the Great Pyrenees’ mouth, esophagus, and gut.
③ Onions. Also should not be fed to the Great Pyrenees. This is because raising them is very toxic to the blood of Great Pyrenees. Dogs eat too much, it is likely to cause acute anemia, or worse, life-threatening. For example, Western food inside always use onion with vegetables, some burgers will also be sandwiched with onions, although the amount is not too much, but, still, will cause some impact on the Great Pyrenees.
④ Refrigerated treats. For example, ice cream, milk, and other dairy products should not be given to Great Pyrenees. Especially for the immature Great Pyrenees, generally, a few small sips of cold milk can cause diarrhea in puppies. Long-term feeding will cause it to form habitual diarrhea. It will hinder the growth and development of the Great Pyrenees puppy.
