When owners groom their cats, the items and methods used vary depending on the area to be groomed. Among them, the cat’s face grooming is the most important work, because if you want to make your cat look more sophisticated, you have to put some effort on its five senses. Here we will talk about how to take care of the cat’s face.
Cleaning a cat’s eyes
When cleaning a cat’s eyes, it is forbidden to use human eye drops, but there are many pet eye drops on the market that are a good choice. Cats often have some secretions in their eyes, if ignored, they will form “tear bumps” around the eyes, and sometimes the color of the coat will change, so it should be cleaned frequently. Use a cotton ball or gauze dipped in warm water to dab the eye to soften the discharge and then gently wipe it off with a wrung out cotton ball. Cats have sensitive eyes and should not be given human eye drops just because they have eye droppings.
Cleaning a cat’s teeth
Prepare the following utensils: toothpaste, toothbrush, and cotton swabs. Do not use ordinary toothpaste and toothbrushes when brushing your cat’s teeth, but buy special toothpaste and toothbrushes for pets.
Healthy teeth and gums: Cats may have tooth decay or gum disease. Feeding your cat dry food can help prevent tartar and gum disease.
Apply a little toothpaste to the cat’s lips to get it used to the taste of toothpaste. Before using the toothbrush, gently touch the gums with a cotton swab to get the cat used to it. When the cat is ready, brush the cat’s teeth with a toothbrush, pet toothpaste or a saline solution. You may need someone to help hold the cat still.
Cleaning a cat’s ears
When the inside of a cat’s ear is black, it is likely to have mange. Normally, cats only need to shake their ears to naturally remove the earwax and water inside, so owners do not need to clean their ears frequently. When the inside of the ear is dirty, wet a cotton swab with ear cleaning water and clean the inside of the ear within visual range.
Wash the cat’s face
Generally speaking, cats are very clean animals and usually use their paws to clean their faces when they have nothing to do. However, some breeds, such as Porcellian cats and Himalayan cats, often have secretions near their eyes due to their sunken noses and short tear glands, which the cat itself cannot clean up and will crust over time, affecting the cat’s image, which then requires someone to help them wash their faces.
To wash the cat’s face, it is best to add some salt to the wash water and use warm water in winter. Hold the cat’s head and neck with your left hand and gently wipe the inner corner of the cat’s eyes and the deep sunken nasal bridge with a wet towel in your right hand. If the cat resists, scold it loudly and move quickly when scrubbing, as the cat will break free after a long time due to discomfort. After feeding the cat every morning and evening, it is best to wash it once.
