Its origins can be traced back to the Cairn Terrier, which is said to have been bred in Portallo by a Scottish breeding family. it became famous worldwide in the early 1900s when it was filmed in an advertisement for Scotch Whisky.
It is a compact dog with a hard coat of about 5cm long, but also has a downy coat. Of course it is white in color, with a medium-length upturned tail, cheerful and cooperative, with excellent hearing and very brave, it is an excellent guard dog, with sensitive skin.
Coat Standard:
Must be double coated. The shape of the head can be altered by plucking to give a rounded appearance. The outer coat consists of straight, stiff white hairs about 5.1cm long, with a shorter neck and back coat, properly blended and trimmed to harmonize the shorter areas of the coat with the trim. The belly and leg trim is longer. Ideally the coat should be hard, straight and white. However, a hard, straight coat can have wheaten tips that are desirable for a white fleece or soft coat.
The trim coat can be slightly softer and longer, but never downy like. A defect is a soft coat. Any silky or curly coat is a defect, as is a loose or single coat, or one of the two coats that is too short.
Beauty Essentials:
The back is trimmed long, the tail is trimmed high, the head is round, the forelimbs are straight, and the hindlimbs should be trimmed thick and strong. Pushers are used only on the tip 1/3 of the ear, around the anus and on the belly and fleshy toes, all other areas are trimmed with a hair picking cutter (large) for hair picking. Trimming was done with thinning shears. No more than 10% of the parts were used with scissors, and more than 90% of the parts were brushed and combed first between the completion of the trimming with hair picking.
Before brushing, use a large hair picking knife to remove the excess long hair, so as to bring convenience for the next step of trimming. If the coat is too long, use scissors to cut it to 5~6cm, so that it is easier to collect hair. Immediately after picking the hair, take a bath with a bath wave to remove the excess hair. Do not use conditioner at this time.
1. Trim the hair between the fleshy toes on the front and hind limbs with a 1mm blade. Trim feet until both toenails are visible. If a file is used regularly, there is no need to trim the toenails.
2. Trim the perineal hair with a 1mm blade and trim the perineum into a round shape.
3. The hair on the back and waist, trimming along the hair, leaving about 5cm long after cutting. After trimming, pick the hair, pay attention to the symmetry of the two sides of the back and waist. Use a large knife to pick the hair from the back to the shoulder, and then use a small knife to pick the hair, so that the part of the hair is left very short.
4. Pick the hair from the back of the head to below the shoulder. When picking the hair, use your left hand to pull against the direction of hair growth. Make the shoulder and buttocks have the same amplitude, the abdomen is slightly larger than the shoulder, and the ribcage is larger than the lateral abdomen, and pick the hair according to this standard. For areas that are difficult to maneuver, such as the lateral abdomen, use your right hand to lift the forelegs and pick the hair.
5. Grasp the mouth and nose with your hand and cut it off from the head with thinning scissors. Since the skin on the neck is thin, use a thin blade and be careful. Use the thinning scissors to trim the boundary between the neck and the head so that the neck looks thicker.
6. Pick the tail hair with a knife. The tail tapers from root to tip, and the tip is trimmed sharp and thin with scissors. From the back to the root of the tail, it should be in a straight horizontal line. From the tail to the buttocks should form an arc, and the hair in this area should be trimmed straight and short.
7. Use thinning scissors to trim the forelimbs into a straight tube, and comb against the hair before trimming, so that the hairs can be made to stand up.
8. As above, trim the foot into a rounded shape after backcombing with a comb.
9. Make a layered effect by trimming the forelimbs.
10. Trim the hair from the hindquarter power leg to the hock in a knife picking motion to taper the leg from top to bottom.
11. Trim the groin at an angle.
12. From the elbow to the horizontal line of the pelvis, leave a 5 to 6 cm long skirt. It is lowest at the groin higher than at the knee joint of the back leg.
13. From the jaw, through the neck to the chest, trim in a curved line. After trimming, the front body must be harmonized. The lower body is trimmed straight, flat and long.
14. The stray hairs on the head are first picked short and then carefully brushed and combed.
