1. Prepare for bathing
Before giving your Satsuma puppy a bath, put a collar on him so that he can be easily controlled during the bath. This doesn’t seem to work for many good dogs who have been in the bath for a long time, but you can try it on a Satsuma puppy for the first time. Use cotton swabs or tampons (not cotton balls, which will automatically fall off if the dog shakes its head during the bath) to plug the ear canal of the Satsuma puppy vertically in the shape of a ding. Also, use a dab of gentamycin ointment on the eyes to prevent bathing fluids and dirty water from entering.
2. Grooming
Dip the Satsuma puppy in the appropriate warm water and wet the entire body, gently comb the Satsuma puppy’s coat through to make the puppy feel comfortable and quiet, ready for the bath.
3. Flush
The direction of the flush is to wash the Satsuma puppy’s head first, then the body. Start with the head and work your way backwards, don’t just grab it by the head and flush it wherever you can.
4. Full body rubbing
First apply the bath to the back of the Satsuma puppy, rub from the back to the buttocks, rub the whole body to produce foam, and finally wash the head, both ears, chin, around the anus, limbs, and soles of the feet of the Satsuma puppy, all of which should be washed comprehensively, with care to avoid getting the foam into the eyes of the Satsuma puppy.
If this is your Satsuma puppy’s first bath, or if he is the type that is very uncooperative when bathing, as described earlier, try using a collar to make it easier for you to control your Satsuma puppy. In this case, you hold your Satsuma puppy’s collar with one hand while gently scrubbing so that your Satsuma puppy doesn’t jump out or get water everywhere.
5. Use hair conditioner
Be sure to rinse the residual bath off your Satsuma puppy’s coat thoroughly and make sure you have completely washed the residual bath off your dog.
6. Dry the hair
The last step is to comb the Satsuma puppy’s coat until it is completely dry. Sometimes we see that the top coat is dry but the undercoat is still damp, so to prevent your Satsuma puppy from catching a cold, do not let him blow in the cold. Dry your Satsuma puppy with a large towel that completely covers him, remove the tampons from inside his ears, and wipe his ears clean. Wipe with the towel first, then dry with a hair dryer.
If your Satsuma puppy is comfortable with the sound of the hair dryer, you can also use the warm air of a regular hair dryer to dry his coat. To avoid burning your Satsuma puppy’s skin, keep the hair dryer more than 30 cm away from your Satsuma puppy’s coat.
