When the wind is cold, everyone is eager for warmth, and the stray animals are no exception. These two days, Nanjing Normal University Xianlin Campus has a lot of “love cat nest”, not only to provide a place for the campus of the stray cats, but also let them live a loving “warm winter”.
Nanjing Normal University Xianlin Campus in the west cafeteria, a sunshade, a yellow, a flower two stray cats nesting in a simple cat nest made of foam panels and plastic baskets, a small bowl aside and a lot of cat food.
The reporter learned that the cats’ nests were placed by a public interest club called “Plum Blossom Trails” at the school. In addition to the roadside cat nest, there are more than 20 other cat nests located in the hidden corners of the school dormitory.
In addition to setting up a “love cat nest” for stray cats and raising funds for de-sexing stray cats on campus through charity sales, the “Plum Blossom Trails” club has been working on a plan to limit the size of the stray cat population.
Chen Li, vice president of the “Plum Blossom Trails” club at Nanjing Normal University, told the reporter that stray cats sometimes inbreed, resulting in a high mortality rate of kittens born, and that stray cats are noisy when they are in heat. Out of concern for the quality of life of the kittens and the safety of the students, they performed de-sexing surgery on the kittens, and the current number of de-sexed stray cats is about 70-80.
This reporter visited many universities in Nanjing and found that stray cats are common on campus, and the schools generally do not purposely drive away or trap them. In addition to Nanjing Normal University, students at Nanjing University and Nanjing Sports College, also made multiple cat nests to help stray cats stay warm through the winter.
College teachers believe that effective care for stray animals, relying only on the “charity” of the caring society is far from enough, school students should not throw away food waste, do not throw, do not feed, do not breed, do not abandon pet cats.
