Thai fighting fish have a strong constitution and rarely get sick if they live in a good water environment. However, they can get sick in some unexpected situations.
1. White spot disease
White spot disease is the most common disease in Thai fighting fish, especially in the winter when the temperature is low or when the water temperature difference is too great during water changes. The treatment method is to increase the water temperature to more than 30℃, and then with the use of methyl blue and other drugs, almost all can be treated and cured.
2. Velvet disease
Thai fighting fish with this disease are covered with extremely fine white dust, and their white spots are much smaller than those of white spot disease. In severe cases, the entire body of the fish is covered with a layer of white dust. This is actually a parasite of some protozoa and can be cured by using some medication for protozoa.
3. Shrink fins
Unless the infection is prolonged or severe, the disease can be treated with the usual bacterial medications available in the aquarium market. However, if you do not improve the living environment of the Thai fighting fish, it will get the disease again.
4. melanosis
Like fin reduction, it is a disease caused by extremely poor water quality. In addition to the loss of appetite and the dull color of the fish, the original long and wide fins of the fish will split apart and appear extra dry and fragile; in severe cases, they will fall off and decompose. If this happens, the water quality should be changed immediately, and then some bacterial treatment or antibiotics can be used to cure the disease in a short time, but the dissolved fins can be restored, but they will not be as long as before, especially the edges of the fins will look rough because of the healing wounds.
5. Injuries
Thai fighting fish often suffer from damage to fins and parts of their bodies due to fighting, and are susceptible to infection by bacteria and mold when the water quality is poor or in other poor conditions. Therefore, it is important to use antibiotics to help Thai fighting fish recover quickly and avoid infections if they are found to be damaged.
In addition, it is important to ensure proper space, good water quality, and not too low water temperature, as well as the usual rich and varied bait feeding and mixed fish that Thai fighting fish can use to show off their own; these are the keys to healthy growth of Thai fighting fish.
