As any poodle owner knows, in the course of raising a poodle, the dog will inevitably experience some sudden symptoms that catch us off guard. For example, a poodle foams at the mouth. When a dog is found foaming at the mouth, we must deal with it promptly. So what causes poodles to foam at the mouth? What are we going to do about it?
Poodles foam at the mouth for several reasons. The first reason may be that the poodle has gastrointestinal problems. If the poodle’s mouth foam is clear and thin mucus, then the white foam may be gastric juice from the dog’s stomach, so this symptom indicates that the dog has a stomach problem, which is commonly known as acute gastroenteritis. The second reason could be that the dog has parvo or the dog has some kind of plague. However, such cases are rare, and generally if we vaccinate our dogs regularly, and the dogs are already adults, there is little chance of them getting parvo or the plague. If the owner is really worried, we can also buy some test strips to give the dog a test. If the red line is exceeded on the strip, then it is proved that the dog has parvo and plague, if not, then it is not.
A third cause could be a problem with the dog’s diet. It could be that the dog has eaten large bones, plastic, metal or other indigestion foods in his regular diet. If the food is eaten, the dog will foam at the mouth. A fourth reason may be that the dog is eating too little, or is overfed. This reason is a common one. For example, some dogs are picky eaters, or some dogs eat a lot.
When the dog has this symptom, we have to give the dog to stop drinking water and food for half a day, if the dog appears to improve, then we can give it some gastrointestinal medicine. If the condition does not improve, then we will take it to the hospital for professional diagnosis and treatment. So in the usual daily diet, we must pay attention to try to avoid this situation in dogs.
