How to clip your dog’s nails? How to trim your dog’s nails at home? What to pay attention to? The following small beans for you to share to the dog nail clipping method.

Method of clipping your dog’s nails:

First of all, you need a proper nail clipper. There are two main types of nail clippers on the market today. One is shaped like scissors and the other is a guillotine-like nail clipper with a rounded hollow. Both types of nail clippers have their pros and cons, but in general the latter works better than the former.

A clipper shaped nail clipper is more suitable for cutting nails that are bent because they have grown too long ~. This is often the case with woofers’ thumb nails, as TAs can’t grind this nail during normal walking.

Remind the parents ~ with a round hole guillotine-like nail clippers when used to pay attention to the front and back Oh, there are blades on the side of their own (facing out), so that you can see clearly. Woofers nails through the round hole, hold the nail clippers, the blade will be forward to cut the dog’s nails!

Secondly, press on with your family’s woofers

We recommend two types of poses to choose from.

1. Prone

Stand next to the table like in the picture below, have Woofie lie down on the table and use nail clippers to cut the nails on the opposite side of the TA.

When clipping nails (front paws), place the arm not holding the nail clippers slightly harder on the dog’s neck (so Woof can’t look up! No more worrying about Woof making a surprise attack), the hand on the same side can lift the TA’s paw. The hand holding the nail clippers needs to go around the master’s body (near the shoulders), from behind Woof’s paws to the front.

If Woof tries to stand up, you can use your upper body strength to press down on TA’s shoulders so Woof can’t stand up!

2. Side-lying

If your family’s woofers are too disobedient, you can also choose to have your TA lie on his side.

The arm not holding the nail clippers is likewise holding down the wang’s neck, and the same side hand lifts the TA’s paw.

The hand holding the nail clippers goes around Woof’s body, with the arm pressed against Woof’s body to act as an immobilizer, holding the nail clippers.

Then you can cut your nails.

But how do you cut your nails so they don’t bleed? There’s a lesson to be learned here.

Unlike meowers, woofers’ nails can’t shrink. And the color of wang nails is related to the color of the surrounding skin and hair, so it’s likely that the same paw will have a different color of nails~!

It’s relatively easy to cut light colored nails because the area above the “quick” is pink, so as long as you leave about two millimeters away from the pink area, you won’t bleed!

As for the dark colored nails, you parents have to be careful! You can’t see the blood line, so try to cut it slowly, a little at a time, a few times, and keep an eye on the broken end of the Woofie’s nails as you go, if the top part of the nail is dark (area #2) and the bottom part is light (area #1), then you can still continue to cut. If there is a gray or pink oval area in between the two parts (area #3), don’t cut any further down, one more cut and you might bleed!

In general, woofers can have their hind limb nails clipped less often than their front limbs. Another thing to keep in mind is that you must remember to cut your thumbnails.

Finally, a few more tips

If your dog’s nails have a long blood line, you can increase the frequency of nail clipping, and as the nails get shorter, the blood line will gradually shorten, too! Don’t cut too many of your dog’s nails at once because they’re too long, it’ll be painful for the dog, and you’ll bleed a lot, and you’ll be traumatized!

Figure 2: (top arrow: cut here will bleed, the dog’s nails are still very long; bottom arrow: cut here, the blood line will shorten itself after yo;) as the dog’s nails become longer, the growth of the blood line

Figure 5: The only way to keep your dog’s nails short enough is to make them less likely to bleed every time you cut them. If you cut such a long nail, the dog will bleed.

The right length nails, trimmed and trimmed

Before clipping your woofie’s nails, it’s a good idea to have something on hand that can stop the bleeding, such as antiseptic cotton balls or hemostatic powder.

If the woofers are particularly resistant to nail clipping, it is necessary to first appease, give some good food, fun, blind TAs, and then take advantage of their surprise attack, you can ask others to help, as long as the success of cutting two or three nails, TA will not be so resistant.

After the cut remember to comfort the injured little heart of the starfish, do not let TA leave a psychological shadow, otherwise the next time you want to cut the nails, it will be difficult.

Having said that, I’d like to remind you that you should never stop clipping your woofers’ nails because you’re afraid of the trouble. Nails that are too long can get stuck in the flesh, and they may bleed and become inflamed, so it’s not worth it to go to the doctor again!
